The Export-Import Bank of Korea announced that 16 interns have been selected to serve in five developing countries under the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) Overseas Internship Program.
The interns will gain hands-on experience in development aid through participation in a six-month program in the Bank’s overseas branches, assisting projects and participating in conferences with Official Development Assistance (ODA) institutions and international development organizations.
The Bank will cover living expenses and program costs for the duration of their stay overseas. Interns evaluated with good performance over the course of the program will also be provided benefits such as exemptions from the first round cut of the Bank’s hiring process.
Interns will be dispatched to Vietnam (4), Indonesia (4), the Philippines (4), Tanzania (2), or Colombia (2).
The Bank initiated the EDCF Overseas Internship Program in 2010 to provide participants with opportunities to gain experience in developing countries actively assisted by EDCF.
Last year’s interns, Ji Hae Ha, who served in Manila, and Ah Rim Jang who served in Jakarta, utilized their EDCF experience to launch their careers at the OECD Development Centre and the International Labor Organization, respectively.
This year, the Bank increased the number of interns selected from ten to 16 to expand opportunities for overseas work experience.
Seop Shim, Executive Director for EDCF Planning Group, commented, “The EDCF internship is an excellent program to build upon one’s academic experience and prepare for entry into international organizations. We hope talented candidates wishing to pursue careers in international development cooperation will actively utilize this opportunity.”
Established in 1987 to strengthen economic cooperation between Korea and developing countries, EDCF supports the construction of infrastructure essential to economic development of developing nations such as roads, bridges, power plants, waterworks, sewer systems, schools, and hospitals.
