The Export-Import Bank of Korea (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Charman Kim Yong-hwan, “Korea Eximbank”) held an inaugural ceremony for the First Class of the ‘EDCF University Student Supporters’ at its Yeouido headquarters on June 1.
* Economic Development Cooperation Fund(EDCF) : Established by the Korean government in 1987, the EDCF promotes economic exchanges and assists developing countries in achieving industrialization and economic stability through the provision of long-term, low-interest credit. As of the end of March 2013, the EDCF has supported 289 projects in 50 countries with KRW 9.11 trillion.
‘EDCF University Student Supporters’ is comprised of twelve undergraduate/graduate students (4 male, 8 female) who are interested in Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Its mission is to enhance the public’s awareness of what EDCF does and to generate support for ODA.
Supporters will conduct a variety of public relations activities on- and off-campus, do volunteer work for multicultural families, staff international conferences hosted by EDCF, and write articles for blogs over a period of six months.
Certificates will be issued to all the participants at the end of their service. Outstanding participants will be awarded citations by either the Minister of Strategy and Finance or the president of Korea Eximbank, and will be advantaged when applying for Korea Eximbank’s ODA internship program.
